Background
Transforming growth factor-beta receptor type II (TGF-β RII) contains a C-terminal protein kinase domain and an N-terminal ectodomain and is the member of the transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-β) receptor subfamily. TGF-β RII is capable of binding TGF-beta 1, TGF-beta 3, and TGF-beta 5 with sufficient affinity to act as an inhibitor of these isoforms at high concentrations. TGF-β RII has a protein kinase domain that forms a heterodimeric complex with another receptor protein and bind TGF-beta. This receptor/ligand complex phosphorylates protein can enter the nucleus and regulate the transcription of a subset of genes related to cell proliferation.
